LIVE THE SONG – COME ON BABY, LET’S GET IT ON

Song of Songs 4:16

She

16 Awake, north wind,
    and come, south wind!
Blow on my garden,
that its fragrance may spread everywhere.
Let my beloved come into his garden
    and taste its choice fruits.

In other words, “Come on baby, let’s get it on.”

It is their wedding night, and he has wooed her with his words. He has told her how beautiful she is from her head to her toes. He has given his heart to her and expressed how she fills him up. He has compared her sexuality to a treasure that he honors and protects and is absolutely amazed by.

And she can’t stand it any more…

“Come on baby, let’s get it on.”

Awake, north wind,
    and come, south wind!

There is a contrast here – north and south – opposite directions. The north wind was a symbol of power and authority. The south wind  was a symbol of comfort and tenderness.

She wants him to love her with strength and tenderness.

A strength that she can relax into and know that he has her. A strength that holds her in strong arms and steadies her at her most vulnerable moments. A strength that is God ordained to lead. At the same time he must hold her in the tenderness that understands how hard sex can be. A tenderness that comes from a man who cares enough to dig deep to find his soft spots to share with her. A tenderness that can touch the gentlest, most delicate parts of her body and feel them quiver.

Blow on my garden,
that its fragrance may spread everywhere.

And when he does, she will open up and she won’t be able to contain herself. She will look different, she will sound different, she will smell different, and people will notice. Her essence will overflow.

Let my beloved come into his garden
    and taste its choice fruits.

This is all that I am, this all that I have, it is the best of the best – come and taste.
